Who Are The Ninety-Nines?
The Ninety-Nines, Inc., is an international organization of licensed women pilots from 35 countries – we currently have over 5,500 members throughout the world. We are a non-profit, charitable membership corporation holding 501(c)(3) U.S. tax status. Our International Headquarters is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Although there are other female pilot organizations in various states and nations, virtually all women of achievement in aviation have been or are members of The Ninety-Nines.
The organization came into being November 2, 1929, at Curtiss Field, Valley Stream, Long Island, New York. All 117 American female pilots had been invited to assemble for mutual support and the advancement of aviation. Louise Thaden was elected secretary and worked tirelessly to keep the group together as we struggled to organize and grow until 1931, when Amelia Earhart was elected as first president and the group was named for the 99 charter members.
Today Ninety-Nines are professional pilots for airlines, industry and government; we are pilots who teach and pilots who fly for pleasure; we are pilots who are technicians and mechanics. But first and foremost, we are women who love to fly!
Our Headquarters, located in a two story building complex on six acres at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is home to our large archival records, video oral histories, personal artifacts, collections and memorabilia, and biographical files on thousands of women pilots from around the world. This is also the site of our 99s Museum of Women Pilots.
Please stop in if you are in the area. Our business hours are 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday – Friday or by appointment.

Is the Los Angeles Unified School District going in the right direction or is it business as usual. Tell your story. I bet I could write a book about the rights and wrongs.
LAUSD ON WRONG TRACK WITH ONE-PATH SYSTEM.
The Los Angeles Unified School district its priorities set wrong. This Los Angeles Daily News piece just confirms that opinion.
“It’s arrogance. Every student in China is taking English classes,” he said.
LAUSD has been working for the past 18 months with Mandarin in the Schools – a local panel created by a prominent national nonpartisan Chinese-American organization called the Committee of 100 – on how to expand the classes in Los Angeles schools.
“It has been a long-standing policy of the LAUSD to allow the use of public school facilities after hours only to non-profit organizations.
That’s why the Sunland-Tujanga community got so aroused when it found out Mt. Gleason school was being turned over to Home Depot for a community meeting June 24 to win support for its effort to convert a closed K-Mart into one of their stores”
Although opinions vary, it is generally accepted that classic muscle cars were produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Muscle cars were built for street use and in some cases racing.
Bullitt
The car was a 390 GT Mustang, dark green, and is logged as one of the best car chases on the silver screen ever. This car had muscle to spare! This was definitely back in the day, and you were the “man” or “woman” if you were driving anything that even remotely resembled it.
The 1969 Chevelle SS Malibu is first on the list. The Chevelle has a classic Muscle car appearance, and a variety of different power plants.
A true classic is the Dodge Charger. This baby really joined the ranks of the muscle car after the inclusion of the 426 Hemi engine in 1966. Proof of this car’s following is the eventual re-awakening of the Charger name.
The all time king of cars some might say is the Chevy Corvette. To attempt to pick the overall best year/engine combination would be impossible to do. Not only an incredible roadster, but always full of muscle. It is the solution to many a man’s mid-life crisis.
“She’s real fine, my 409.” How could I leave out the car that inspired this Beach Boys tune. In 1961, Chevrolet introduced the Impala SS 409.
For lovers of Ford, the greatest in their line up must be the Mustang. With the varied different engines and builds such as the Boss, Shelby, Mach 1, and Cobra, any one can see why so many people are smitten with this one. Another example of an older classic that has recently had its name revisited.

The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared on 26 September 1966 for the 1967 model year on an all brand new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform and would be available as a 2-doors, 2+2 seating, coupé or convertible with a choice of six-cylinder and V8 powerplants. The first-gen Camaro would last up through the 1969 model year.
Enthusiasm for the Camaro comes easy. It invades the luxury kingdom of Cougar by offering more comfort options and the sporty area of the Mustang by having at least the same amount (if not more) of enthusiast-oriented accessories.
A Camaro exclusive is the 350-cubic-inch V-8 that comes as part of the SS-350 option. This engine is supplied with a four-barrel carb and is modestly rated at 295 horsepower. Torque is listed at 380 pound-feet at 3200 rpm.
Musclecar Comparison: 440 Barracuda vs. 396 Camaro vs. 428 Mustang
The Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro are two of the greatest cars to come out of the States.
The Ford Mustang was launched on April 17 1964 at the New York World’s Fair and via a national television advertising campaign. The original model was a compact car, weighing around 1,200kgs and available in hardtop and convertible styles with a straight-six or V8 under its hood.
The Chevrolet Camaro was GM’s much needed answer to the upstart from Ford.
It arrived almost three years after the Mustang in 1967 and set out to beat it on road and track. “Because it arrived after the Ford and GM had longer to develop it, some people say it was superior to the Mustang.
